A conversation about a new tribute publication in the series on Hertzog Prize winners from the South African Academy. It focuses on the well-known playwright and prose writer Henriette Grové, who is somewhat of a marginal (and underrated) figure in Afrikaans literature; hence, this publication is also a reassessment. She was never considered part of the Sixties movement, even though her work exhibits all the characteristics of this movement. Her collection of light romance novels (originally published in Afrikaans women’s magazines) did not contribute positively to her reputation. This tribute publication also contains two chapters about A.P. Grové, her husband, because her position as a central figure in Afrikaans literature, especially during the 1950s to 1980s, is closely linked to her husband’s status and place in Afrikaans literature.
