This exhibition explores Roger Ballen’s deeply psychological and visually striking interpretation of Johannesburg. For over 40 years, Ballen has documented the city not just as a physical space but as a state of mind – one shaped by history, urban transformation, and the complexities of human existence. Through a multidisciplinary approach, including photography, video, and installation, Ballen’s work moves beyond mere documentation to interrogate identity, marginalisation, and the unconscious. His images blur the boundaries between reality and imagination, challenging viewers to reconsider how they see both the city and themselves.
