After all the terrifying stories about Wilgenhof (a hostel in Stellenbosch), I tried to remember horrible things about my time at Die Plek, but all I could recall were flashes of fantastic parties. The early nineties was a carefree (certainly naïve) time for a bunch of unbearable boys. A simple era before the onslaught of social media and buzzwords like “toxic,” “woke,” and “offensive.” We were deliberately unaware of the world outside the Bos; everything in the Bos revolved around friendship, the price of a bottle of Tassies, and of course … above all: Wilgenhof. Built like Steffi Graf is a concert (without apologies or ideological masturbation) about being young, crazy, and happy in a time when we laughed a lot more than we frowned.
