A discussion about the transposition of novels into dramas and/or films. This process is known as intermediation and is a particular form of rewriting that, in many ways, is comparable to translation. The latter always involves mediation between the original text and the translation and never occurs without considering aspects such as literary interpretations, ideology, and culture. When a novel is adapted into a film (e.g., a book by André P. Brink or J.M. Coetzee into a Hollywood production), there are various factors that the director must consider, as well as the viewer who is often confronted with a film based on a novel set in another country, another cultural context, and written in another language and medium.
